ATACC AS A FACULTY
In 1997 a group of Merseyside anaesthetic consultants were approached by the Regional School of Anaesthesia to address the issue of trauma training for the anaesthetic and critical care community.
At the time there was no real alternative to courses such as ATLS, which were surgically bias and developed primarily for the American trauma system. A solution was needed that was both relevant to UK anaesthesiology, but more importantly remained up-to-date with latest global research and available technology.
This expert group became known as the Faculty of Anaesthesia Trauma and Critical Care. A solution materialised in 1998 as the ATACC course. Numerous other courses have now been developed from ATACC including Rescue-trauma training (RTACC), scene safety and assessment (ISAC), critical care transport (BATT), human simulation critical incident training (CISTR) and each one continues to evolve and develop to stay as up to date as possible.
